Claron A. "Rob" Robertson
Vicechair
I was born in Stuttgart, Germany on December 10, 1950, to a military family. We returned to Stuttgart for another tour of duty by my father from  1963 to 1966, where I attended an American high school  and was fortunate to travel widely in Western Europe, encouraged by a family fascination with the arts, particularly opera. Â
I graduated from Duke University, magna cum laude, in 1972, and the University of Virginia Law School, in 1975. I became a commissioned officer in the United States Army Reserve (Field Artillery), in 1974. I practiced law in downtown Charleston until my retirement on December 31, 2011, and have been happily and constructively retired since then. I am a lifelong amateur musician, and have been performing recreationally more or less continuously since about 1980, first on trumpet with the Charleston Community Band, and for the last 25 years on guitar as the music director of my own Beatles cover band (which is now mercifully retired). Â
I am a licensed U.S. Coast Guard Master and  have traversed the East Coast from Maine to Key West on my own boats. I am an enthusiastic amateur farmer and own and operate Sheldon Farms on Wadmalaw Island.
My wife Martha Ann and I have lived in downtown Charleston since moving here fifty years ago. I am the proud owner and developer of what we call "The Imagine Project", an ambitious reinvention of the grand Charleston home at 6 Montagu Street, which  has become an active arts venue, hosting functions for The Charleston Symphony Orchestra League, the Nuevo Italian Film Festival, and the Charleston Opera Theater, and frequently housing visiting artists in residence. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve on the Charleston Opera Theater Board.
